Terms of Use

These terms govern access to Illinois Criminal History. Visiting a page, reading its content, or submitting a search means that you accept every condition below. If you disagree with any part, you must stop using the website.

NO FCRA USE. Illinois Criminal History is privately owned and has no affiliation with a federal, state, or local government body. Neither this website nor its advertising partners provides a service for credit decisions, employment screening, insurance underwriting, tenant screening, or another purpose governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The resource directs visitors to Illinois criminal-record sources. It is not a private investigation firm or a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

Illinois Criminal History is a private reference site operating independently of government. We do not hold official criminal records, retrieve official files, conduct official background checks, or submit forms for a visitor.

Its purpose is to identify the correct Illinois record holder, including the Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification, Illinois Department of Corrections, Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry, state courts, and local agencies across 102 counties. The Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, governs requests to covered public bodies. ISP conviction dissemination is governed by 20 ILCS 2635, and access to the BOI repository is limited by 20 ILCS 2630. Those official processes remain separate from any outside search tool linked here.

2. Rules for Using This Site

As a condition of access, you must not:

  • Use bots, scrapers, or other automated tools against these pages
  • Attempt to enter systems or data without authorization
  • Use information to stalk, threaten, or harass another person
  • Rely on content for hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decisions
  • Interfere with performance or prevent another visitor's access
  • Violate federal, Illinois, or local law while using the website

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

You may not use information found here or through a linked tool to stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or discriminate against anyone. Such conduct may be criminal. This restriction is especially important for the Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry. Illinois law limits misuse of registry data, and conduct directed at a registrant can carry penalties. Registry information is published for public safety awareness, not vigilantism, blacklisting, or discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

Illinois Criminal History is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. We do not create consumer reports, credit reports, or background checks. Our advertising partners also do not offer these tools here for evaluating applications, insurance risk, or credit. You may not use information from the website or a linked search tool to:

  • Evaluate credit or determine an insurance premium
  • Screen a renter or housing applicant
  • Make a decision to hire or terminate a person
  • Decide eligibility for a license, permit, or government benefit
  • Carry out any other activity regulated by the FCRA

When a regulated background check is required, use an authorized Illinois State Police process or a screening provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

Nothing published here is legal advice. General information about Illinois records cannot determine how a charge, conviction, warrant, sealing rule, or expungement rule applies to one person. Consult an attorney licensed in Illinois for that advice.

6. No Warranties

All content and services are offered "as is." We make no promise that:

  • Partner search results will be complete or correct
  • Every page will be free from bugs, errors, or security weaknesses
  • Information will always be current, accurate, or complete
  • The website will operate without interruption

Illinois criminal records can change as charges are filed, dismissed, sealed, or expunged. Updates and gaps are unavoidable. Treat only a record from the originating court, sheriff, police agency, or state office as an official statement.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links lead to Illinois agencies, court portals, circuit clerks, sheriffs, legal-aid organizations, and outside search services. We do not control those destinations. We are not responsible for their availability, prices, data practices, or content. Review the destination's terms before using it.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Illinois Criminal History or its content partners. You may not reproduce, distribute, change, or create derivative material without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the broadest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damages arising from website use, including actions taken in reliance on content or a linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, demands, or legal proceedings caused by your use of the website or breach of these terms, including related costs and legal fees.

11. Governing Law

Illinois law governs these terms. Any dispute tied to use of Illinois Criminal History must be brought in a court located within Illinois.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these terms at any time. A revision takes effect when the updated text is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

We may suspend, restrict, or end access at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in effect. The affected provision will be limited only as much as needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be sent through the Contact page.
